FORT ST. JOHN (NEWS1130) – RCMP in Northern BC are concerned after a group of teens ended up getting really sick while trying to get high on a synthetic drug being dubbed “Incense.”

Fort St John RCMP’s Jodi Shelkie says they’ve never seen anything like this before.

“[The teens] believed that by smoking this incense that somehow they would experience a marijuana-type high. However, all it did was make them sick. The fellow that had to go to the hospital, he tried more than the other kids did,” Shelkie notes.

She’s hoping parents across the province will take this opportunity to talk to their kids.

“Kids are getting information from peers and on the Internet and a lot of it, if not most of it, isn’t correct.”

A drug being called “Herbal Incense” has been plaguing places like Cleveland, Ohio — street names include “Spice” and “K2.”

Experts say it can cause hallucinations and psychosis.
