VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s that time of the year when many Canadians think about heading south to escape the rain and wind, but the weather remains bad in some popular resort areas right now.  Mexico has extended a warning up the east coast as Hurricane Paul approaches.

Another storm is also brewing in the Atlantic right now.

If you booked a trip to a resort that’s affected by a major storm, all is not lost.  Brad Davies with Virtually There Travel says switches can be made.

“A lot of suppliers will look very kindly on a request should a client want to go to an alternative destination,” he says. “The logic being they don’t want to fly a client into a destination and there could be some impending concerns.”

He says you should discuss your options with your travel agent well ahead of your departure.  That should reduce some of the worry if bad weather forces changes at the last minute.

If you’re agent isn’t helpful, go over there head, talk to their boss or the airline.  Davies says that should “rattle some chains” and you should get the service you expect.
