VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver is another step closer to putting its bike share program in place.

Erin O’Mellin with the cyclist advocacy group HUB was at a meeting at City Hall last night, when by-law changes were discussed.

“[The program is] an extension of the transit system in many ways and the City of Vancouver doesn’t have jurisdiction over transit here. So, this is a way that they can really help folks get from Points A to B in those busy areas like the [downtown] core,” she explains.

O’Mellin says streamlining the permit process for the 125 bike stations downtown makes sense.

“Instead of having a hundred licences for a hundred stations, having one licence because it’s the same thing happening at each of those [stations]. So, [it would] reduce the bureaucracy that would have to happen,” she tells us.

The city’s bike share program would make 1,500 bikes available around downtown.
