VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – An Air Canada flight attendant is back in Vancouver, after being one of the crew members who was instrumental in tracking down a yacht in distress off the coast of Australia last week.
Sandy Briggs says he can’t wait to track down the sailor who was eventually rescued, once he gets back to Australia.
He stresses it was a team effort once the pilots were asked to drop altitude to look for the lost boat.
“When the captain made the announcement and I asked for binoculars from passengers, the energy level in the airplane was completely up. Everybody was involved. It was a real team effort, not just from the pilots and crew but also from the passengers who were absolutely tremendous.”
Briggs was the second person on the plane to spot the yacht.
The sailor had been running out of fuel and was drifting out to sea. He was eventually rescued.
“I was thrilled to be a part of this and I’m hoping to have the opportunity to meet this gentleman on one of my next trips to Sydney,” says Briggs.
