NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) – A New Westminster man has been arrested after police say he assaulted a woman on a bus.

Anne Drennan with Transit Police says the 41-year-old woman was with two friends when she was viciously attacked shortly after 11 a.m. on Thursday.

“The man, who was unknown to the women in any way, began to yell at one of them. When she asked him to quiet down, he spat on her and began to kick and punch her,” she describes.

The victim was taken to hospital, where she received stitches inside her mouth and on her face.

“He then went up to the front of the bus and threatened to punch the bus driver if he didn’t let him off the bus. He was then dropped off at 6th and 20th [Street],” adds Drennan.

Brandon Joseph Johnson, 30, has been arrested; he has been charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Uttering Threats, and Breach of Probation. He’s still in custody and will have a psychiatric assessment on Monday.

He’s previously been convicted of assaulting a bus driver and a police officer in two separate incidents.
