VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Two men in their twenties are in hospital after a early morning shooting in East Vancouver.

It happened shortly before 7 a.m. at East 5th Avenue, near Commercial Drive. Witnesses called 911 after hearing gunshots.

“One of the men was found on the street at East 5th Avenue and Commercial Drive and the other was found in the lobby of the apartment,” explains Vancouver Police Sgt. Randy Fincham. “Both men were known to the police.”

The men were taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries.

A woman who lives in the area was in tears as she spoke to News1130 in front of the New Orleans Court apartments. She heard about the shooting and wanted to make sure one of the victims wasn’t someone she knew.

“I just thought this neighbourhood was really safe, you know, but….it’s just my friend you know. He’s totally fine, but you know you don’t think these things will happen,” she says.

At this time, police say no arrests have been made, but do confirm the shooting was targeted.

Vancouver Police Major Crime Section and Forensic Identification Unit will be on the scene for the remainder of the day.

If you were in that area this morning, and have possible information on the shooting or victims, you’re asked to call the Vancouver Police Robbery, Assault & Arson Unit at 604-717- 2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
