Swiss League team cuts Gilbert Brule

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND (NEWS1130) – Former Vancouver Giants star Gilbert Brule is now without a hockey team after his release from ZSC Lions of the Swiss National League A in Zurich, Switzerland.  Brule signed with the Swiss side when he wasn’t offered an NHL contract in free agency this summer.

In 14 games with Zurich, Brule had no goals and six assists before the team, coached by former Vancouver Canucks head coach Marc Crawford, cut him.

The 25-year-old played with the Edmonton Oilers, Phoenix Coyotes and Columbus Blue Jackets after being drafted by the Blue Jackets sixth overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.  His best season was a 17 goal and 20 assist campaign for Edmonton in 2009-10.

After a brilliant minor hockey career at the North Shore Winter Club, Brule would play his junior hockey with the BC Hockey League’s Quesnel Millionaires and the Western Hockey League’s Vancouver Giants where he was a member of the Giants’ 2005-06 Memorial Cup winning team.
