VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – He was badly roughed up nearly three years ago at his own home by two plainclothes Vancouver Police officers who knocked on the wrong door when responding to a domestic dispute.

Yao Wei Wu has now settled a lawsuit against the City and the VPD. But as part of the agreement, but he’s been told not to speak with reporters.

Gabriel Yiu is with a concerned citizens group that’s been helping Wu and his family.

“Even though this case looks like [it's closed], he cannot talk to the media and the public about his feelings,” he tells us. “But my understanding and from our observations, Mr. Wu is quite happy with this settlement.”

“They are satisfied that finally this case is finally being drawn to a conclusion so they can get back to a normal life,” adds Yiu.

There may yet be a public hearing into what happened. The police complaint’s commissioner is appealing a decision not to hold an inquiry into the actions of the two officers involved.

Wu is said to be doing much better, though he still has vision problems after the ordeal left him with a swollen eye and bruised face. He and his family say public support has been incredible and is thanking everyone for their support.

Today, Vancouver Police Chief Jim Chu maintained Wu is an innocent man and the two police officers involved were acting in good faith.  Both are still with the force; one is on patrol, while the other is working in an investigative section.
