VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s a question that gets raised as soon as the temperatures start to drop — do you need winter tires on your car?
Mechanic Bernie Pawlik says all-season tires are just fine, especially if you’re driving around the city as opposed to heading into the Interior.
“I mean I’ve driven cars with all-season tires in sub-zero temperatures and never noticed any difference,” Pawlik says.
He notes all-season tires have come a long way in terms of quality, so you don’t necessarily have to get winter ones. He does say however it’s important to make sure the rest of your car is also prepared for the cold temperatures.
“If you’re going somewhere that’s minus 20, then the antifreeze should be good for at least minus 30.”
Pawlik adds you should always make sure you have an emergency supply kit that includes a flashlight, blanket, dry food, water, a cell phone and a first aid kit.
