NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Optimism has replaced warnings about the future of long-line helicopter rescues in BC.
A solution is in the works to an issue that had alarmed search and rescue teams.
This past weekend, North Shore Rescue‘s Tim Jones had warned that lives were at risk over a decision to ground long-line rescues because of equipment certification problems.
But Jones is feeling better now.
“The update we have that’s come through Emergency Management BC via the manufacturers is that there were high-levels discussions with Transport Canada to resolve the issue.”
Jones credits the media and North Vancouver MP Andrew Saxton for putting pressure on officials to find a solution.
“It did go viral, believe me, last night and today.”
The federal transport minister has issued a statement to confirm the equipment will be put into use again as soon as inspections are conducted.
