DELTA (NEWS1130) – The Delta School District is reassuring parents after student information was unintentionally accessed.

The Parent Connect system was set up to give parents access to their own child’s information. But last week, one parent ended up getting details about all students in the system.

Deneka Michaud with the school district says the parent contacted them right away.

“Basically, what happened was the parent generated the report herself. So, through our system, we can see when the report was generated. It was just her that generated it,” she explains.

Michaud says steps have now been taken to make sure it doesn’t happen again. “We have absolutely no indication that it has happened before, and nothing like that has ever been brought to our attention.”

The incident is being blamed on a programming error.

The school district has sent letters to parents to say steps have been taken to prevent it happening again. The district also insists student privacy is a high priority.
