VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It seems many entrepreneurs don’t do much retirement planning, and those who do don’t intend to stop working for quite some time.
Research done for The Investors Group also finds more than half of those asked admit they do not have any succession plan in place.
Even among those who do have a plan, it’s more of a longer-term strategy than anything else.
“Twenty-seven per cent said they’re probably going to look at getting out of their business sometime between the ages of 65 and 69,” says Vice President Jack Courtney.
But he admits some of the other numbers in the survey caught him a bit off-guard.
“What was surprising was that more than a third — 39 per cent of those surveyed — indicated that they plan to work into their seventies and another 14 per cent said they really never plan to retire,” explains Courtney.
One factor may be the difficulty in letting go, as making the transition from managing your own business to handing the reins over to someone else can be a hard turn for many entrepreneurs.
