Voicing your concern about the Kinder Morgan pipeline

By

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It could be your only chance to voice your concern to the Kinder Morgan pipeline in the Lower Mainland.

Local First Nations — including the Tsleil-Waututh Nation — are asking people to come out to the oil giant’s first open house today in North Vancouver. But no one from the Tsleil-Waututh Nation will be there themselves.

Council member Carleen Thomas says they don’t want it to appear they are in consultation with Kinder Morgan on the pipeline, because they are not.

“Because Tsleil-Waututh is a Nation, we have rights and title that are protected under the Canadian constitution and any participation with Kinder Morgan in any process may been interpreted as consultation,” she explains.

Thomas says any consultation with them should go through the federal government.

“We expect government to government consultations, so any participation or any discussion that Tsleil-Waututh would have would be with the Government of Canada.”
