VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The game is two weeks away but BC Lions owner David Braley expects a very large crowd as his team hosts the West Final on November 18th.
Braley tells News1130 Sports that sales are trending for a crowd of over 40,000 and he thinks that a crowd over 50,000 is possible.
There was a crowd of 41,313 at last year’s West Final when the Lions beat the Edmonton Eskimos 40-23, on their way to winning the 2011 Grey Cup.
Lions players are off for the early part of this week before returning to practice Thursday. They await the winner of this weekend’s tilt between the Calgary Stampeders and Saskatchewan Roughriders.
BC players were left off the list of this week’s CFL Player of the Week awards. Hamilton quarterback Henry Burris was named the Offensive Player of the Week. He threw for 497 yards and four touchdowns in Hamilton’s 43-40 season-ending loss to Toronto.
Eskimos middle linebacker JC Sherritt was named Defensive Player of the Week after registering 11 tackles against Calgary to bring his 2012 total to 130. That breaks Calvin Tiggle’s single-season mark of 129 set in 1994.
Toronto Argonauts kicker Swayze Waters won the Special Teams Player of the Week award, while Winnipeg Blue Bombers linebacker Henoc Muamba is the Canadian Player of the Week.
