CHILLIWACK (NEWS1130) – Police in Chilliwack say six poppy fund collection boxes have been stolen over the past five days.

The thieves targeted businesses along Vedder Rd. and Mounties aren’t sure how much money they got away with.

Members of the Royal Canadian Legion went to the businesses to change out the donation boxes and realized they were missing.

On average, the Legion raises $20,000 a year in poppy sales to help veterans living in Chilliwack.

“It’s pretty disturbing,” said Chilliwack RCMP Cst. Tracy Wolbeck.  “The motivation behind crimes like this is just pure greed.  Our veterans have played such an integral role for Canadians and it’s really upsetting to have to report on a crime like this.”
