SANDY, UT (NEWS1130) – Seattle’s Mario Martinez scored the only goal in the 81st minute of the second game to give the Sounders a 1-0 triumph in their two-game aggregate goal MLS series with Real Salt Lake.

The two squads looked like they were headed to extra time, when Martinez beat RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando with a clinical left-footed strike. Fredy Montero set up the Honduran.

Like the first game, which was 0-0 draw in Seattle, both Keepers were sharp. Rimando was called upon to make four saves, while Seattle’s Michael Gspurning had to make nine stops.

It is the first series win in Sounders FC history and it it was the only goal Seattle scored in five matches with Real Salt Lake in 2012.

Seattle will now head to LA to meet the defending MLS Cup champion Galaxy on Remembrance Day for leg one of the Western Conference Championship. The second game will be played the following weekend in Seattle.

The Eastern Conference final features DC United and Houston Dynamo.
