VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Former Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan has made it official, he’s looking to join the BC Liberal team, however, there wasn’t much of a Liberal presence at his news conference this morning.

He greeted a few of his former colleagues from city hall who were in the crowd as he announced he’s seeking a nomination in the riding of Vancouver-False Creek.

Sullivan says he has spoken with Premier Christy Clark, a one-time rival.  “She certainly was very open to my candidacy.”

But he declined to say who approached him.  “I don’t really talk about our personal conversations.”

Former BC Liberal MLA Lorne Mayencourt is also considering a run for the BC Liberal nomination in the same riding, but he has not yet to make an official announcement.  The riding is currently held by Mary McNeill, who is retiring from provincial politics.

Back in 2005, Sullivan topped Clark for the NPA mayoral nomination before going on to serve one-term as mayor.

He was then ousted by his own party three years later in favour of former City Councillor Peter Ladner, who then lost the election to current Mayor Gregor Robertson.
