VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’re hoping to score some extra cash during the upcoming holiday season then you may want to start applying for jobs now. And there are ways to turn your temporary position into a full-time one.
The first tip is to look beyond retail.
Koula Vasilopoulous with Robert Half International says sectors like manufacturing and online sales are always looking.
“Also, covering receptionist roles, covering the mail room, data entry, customer service folks. Those are the types of positions that we see a real spike in at this time of year,” she explains.
Another good idea is to touch base with a former employer to see if there are any openings as many regular workers are on vacation.
She suggests registering with a temp agency to increase your chances.
”Many times they’ll have access to opportunities that aren’t even published out on the market place. The beauty of doing a sort of temporary position is that it can really serve as form of an audition.”
And that means standing out from everyone else.
