ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – Krys Kolanos scored in the second period and the Abbotsford Heat got 29 saves from Barry Brust for his second shutout of the season as they blanked the Lake Erie Monsters 3-0.
The Heat (8-1-3) took over first place in the North Division from the Monsters (9-5-0). The two teams will play a rematch Wednesday night.
Neither team found the back of the net in the opening period, though Abbotsford controlled the play, outshooting Lake Erie 14-9 through 20 minutes.
In the middle period, Kolanos opened the scoring just shy of the 13-minute mark with his fourth goal of the season.
That would be all the scoring until Sven Baertschi and Quintin Laing potted empty-net goals in the final 1:08 of the third period.
Brust has allowed just one goal in three appearances for Abbotsford so far this season.
