Heavy snowfall means early opening for North Shore mountains

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130 – Good news for those of you itching to get out your winter sports gear.
Grouse Mountain is open today, while Cypress Mountain will be open for skiing and boarding tomorrow.

Cypress received 30 centimeters of snow Sunday and says it will be making snow to get the runs ready.  Upper Fork, mid Jasey Jay, and lower Jasey Jay will be open and they’ll be hauling snow to mid Panorama and Easy Rider hoping to open those runs as well.

Sarah Lusk with Grouse says for an early season opening, conditions are really good as the mountain received about 24 centimeters of snow.

“We had a great dump of snow and we’ve been making snow as well so we’re happy to be able to let people hit the slopes for the first time this year,” says Lusk.

She says although the mountain will only have a few runs open this week, things could change quickly.

“More runs to come as mother-nature provides more snow and people should just stay tuned.”

Seymour is still going to be closed, hoping to open by the end of the month.
