VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The six-game Subway Super Series hits the West Coast for the final two games of the tour as the WHL stars take on the Russians in game four. Team WHL is made up of the biggest Canadian-born stars in the Western Hockey League who are eligible to play for Canada at the upcoming IIHF World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia.
Team WHL’s head coach is Spokane Chiefs coach Don Nachbaur, who will serve as an assistant coach for Canada’s national junior team this year. Vancouver Giants coach Don Hay will serve as an assistant coach for the game.
BC boys on the WHL roster include Port Aberni-born goaltender Laurent Brossoit of the Edmonton Oil Kings, Oil Kings teammate Griffin Reinhart of West Vancouver and North Vancouver defense-man Morgan Rielly of the Moose Jaw Warriors.
The Russians come to town having split the first four games of the series, with Team QMJHL and Team OHL each recording a win and a loss. Russia has its usual cast of stars including Edmonton Oilers prospect Nail Yakupov, the first overall pick in last June’s NHL Entry Draft a former member of the OHL’s Sarnia Sting.
The WHL can take a lead in the series with the final game to be played Thursday night in Victoria. Game time is 7 p.m.
