ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – If Oscar the Grouch were committing this crime, he’d have hit the jackpot!

Thieves anticipating some expensive loot in a big black trailer near a construction site in Abbotsford were instead left with a whole lot of trash to sift through early Thursday morning.

“When they knocked the padlock off, there would have been some priceless looks on their faces,” says Abbotsford Police Cst. Ian MacDonald.

“I’m sure the thieves thought they were going to get some high-end building supplies or maybe some fittings for the houses that were being erected. Instead they managed to take off with a trailer full of garbage.”

It turns out the owner of the trailer was storing garbage in it until a trip to the dump.

Police are still looking for the suspects.
