New Port Mann opens to westbound traffic tomorrow

SURREY (NEWS1130) – You’ll be able to use the new Port Mann Bridge earlier than originally planned if you’re heading in from Surrey.

Crews are opening up the span to westbound traffic early tomorrow morning instead of Sunday.

Kim Seale in the News1130 Air Patrol can’t wait. “It was wonderful when we got the eastbound lanes open a few months back. But the westbound [ones] are sort of a finale to the whole thing.”

“It sort of makes it more ‘finished.’ We are almost done with this; they’re getting ready to have that new bridge start up,” she adds.

“Remember, we’re going to have a lot of traffic pattern changes that you’re going to have to get used to. That’s usually why they hold big openings like this on a weekend, because they have a little bit of lighter traffic… and they can see if anything’s catching people as they’re making their way through on the new passes and new lanes,” she explains.

The partial opening is being pushed ahead by 24 hours because of a storm forecast for tomorrow night. All four westbound lanes will open December 1st.
