VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A number of colleges across BC will soon get a taste of the job action that’s been disrupting Vancouver Community College in recent weeks.

Support staff continue to ramp up the pressure for a new contract.

The BCIT Faculty and Staff Association will join Vancouver Community College behind pickets on Monday.

Tuesday and Wednesday, a few other colleges in the province will see job action. Camosun, Vancouver Island University, College of New Caledonia, College of the Rockies, and North Island College are all expected to be in a legal strike position by then.

CUPE‘s college co-ordinator Ian McLean is blaming the BC government for this escalation. “Ask the government to settle this. We’re not asking for more. We’re not asking for less. We’re just asking for the same settlements that have happened in other post-secondary institutions and other government agencies.”

McLean says it’s very possible other colleges including Langara and Emily Carr will see job action soon. “Nobody wants any disruption. Most of all the support staff who take a great deal of pride in how they service and work with our students.”

The last contract expired in 2010.
