VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Stampeders’ quarterback Kevin Glenn threw three TDs as Calgary defeated the defending Grey Cup champions 34-29 at BC Place. The BC Lions’ only touchdown was scored with a minute left in the game.

Glenn opened the scoring on the second play from scrimmage with a 68-yard touchdown toss to Marquay McDaniel.

Eight minutes later, the Lions tied the game when defensive back Korey Banks picked off Glenn and went 77 yards for the major. It was the longest interception return in a playoff game in BC club history.

Before the first quarter, Glenn found Maurice Price from 29 yards out to give the visitors a 14-7 lead after a quarter.

The Lions’ Paul McCallum had three field goals in the second quarter. Rene Paredes countered with two for the Stamps. It was 17-16 at the half for Calgary.

The Stampeders had two more majors in the third quarter as Romby Bryant hauled in a 57 yard strike from Glenn. Back up quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell had a one-yard TD plunge on third down. It was 31-16 after three quarters for Calgary.

McCallum kept the Lions in the game, as he he hit all five of his field goal attempts.

The only touchdown for BC came late in the fourth quarter, as Travis Lulay found Nick Moore from two yards out.

Calgary’s Nik Lewis recovered Paul McCallum’s onside kick to seal the game in front of 43,216 fans at B.C. Place Stadium.

The Leos’ defence had trouble containing Stamps running back Jon Cornish of New Westminster, who had  112 yards on the ground on 18 carries.

The Stampeders will take on the Argonauts in Toronto at the 100th Grey Cup game. The Argos took out the East division champions in Montreal 27-20.
