MERRITT (NEWS1130) – A hearing for murderer Allan Schoenborn has been postponed for the second time. The delay is upsetting the mother of his children, who were also his victims.
The review, which determines if Schoenborn can be released into the community, won’t happen until sometime early next year, according to Dave Teixeira who speaks for the victims’ family: mother Darcie Clarke and her cousin Stacy Galt.
“The BC Review Board… they let us know that Allan Schoenborn’s lawyer is ill… officially, it’s being delayed until after January of next year,” says Teixeira.
“Both Stacy and Darcie were looking forward to the hearing because they want to make sure that the BC Review Board understands that while they are interested in Allan Schoenborn’s well-being, they’re interested in making sure that the three children who were murdered by this man are not forgotten, as well.”
The slaying of ten-year-old Kaitlynne, eight-year-old Max and five-year-old Cordon happened in Merritt in 2008.
Teixeira says the annual review is very “painful” and “like torture” for Clarke and Galt.
“Every time Allan comes up for review, they have to re-live the murders of these three beautiful children. They’re just torn apart, and every year they must go through this,” explains Teixeira.
“It’s not easy. It’s something that, of course, no one would’ve wished to have happen. But if there’s any good that has come out of this, they are working very, very hard to have the laws changed so that families of future victims don’t have to go through what they’re going through right now.”
Teixeira says the family wants the reviews to happen every three years instead of on an annual basis.
“The ideal situation, what they’ve wanted from day one, is that he actually be denied these annual reviews. With someone found not criminally responsible, they come up for review every single year. So, for a gentleman like Schoenborn, who’s in his forties, this could happen for the next forty years.”
This is the second postponement; it was originally set for last April.
