PORTLAND, OR (NEWS1130) – Vancouver goalie Payton Lee made 39 saves in a 3-0 loss to Portland in the WHL. Delta’s Nicolas Petan had the final two goals for the Winterhawks, including an empty netter.
The Hawks scored a goal in each period.
Ty Rattie opened the the scoring almost 13 minutes into the opening frame, as the home team outshot Vancouver 18-10.
Petan scored his first of the evening with just under four minutes left in the middle period. His 13th of the year was scored with Lee pulled for an extra attacker with 45 seconds left in the contest.
Portland’s Brendan Leipsic assisted on all three goals in front of almost 5,400 fans on American Thanksgiving eve at the Rose Garden.
Final shots on goal were 42-18 for the American Division leaders.
The Giants play the Western Conference leaders in Kamloops on Saturday.
