VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Black Friday is just two days away and that means many of you will be heading south of the line for some shopping bargains.  The Canada Border Services Agency has some tips to make your trip back less painful.

Lisa White with the CBSA says have all your receipts ready to handover to border officers.

“Make a full declaration.  Sometimes we see people trying to undervalue or not declare all their goods.  Remember, there are some pretty significant consequences that can come along with that and it’s not worth the risk.”

She adds anyone heading to the US in hopes of scoring some deals really should be planning ahead.  “We want people to make sure that the goods they’re looking to buy are permitted in Canada.  We don’t want people to be disappointed and when in doubt leave it out.  But, we certainly encourage people to plan ahead and part of planning is making sure what you’re buying is allowed.”

White says the best times to travel are early morning and early evening

Remember News1130 will have special northbound border reports from Canada Border Services all weekend long to keep you in the know about those line-ups.
