VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A body found this past weekend in a burned-out car has been identified as a young Richmond man.
The case is now Vancouver’s ninth homicide of the year.
The body was found Saturday evening as Vancouver firefighters responded to a car fire. The remains have been identified as those of 23-year old Matthew Johnathan Hall.
Sergeant Randy Fincham says Hall was known to police and thinks he was targeted. “Police will be looking at any connection to Mr. Hall and any other activity or any other groups of people, and that’s one aspect that we will be looking at.”
Police are asking anyone who may have seen something around 7:30 that night to give them a call.
“Police are currently looking for suspects, so they are working to determine at this point if someone was seen leaving the area, if there are any witnesses to the crime, as well as doing a video canvass in the area to try and identify suspects.”
The car was found near the corner of Carolina Street and Terminal Avenue.
