VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – One month after announcing funding for four temporary homeless shelters, the City of Vancouver has now released the locations.
The way it’s been handled doesn’t sit well with at least one city councillor. The first location to go public was at Seymour near Davie, after residents caught wind of the plan. Shelters are also being set up on Richards near Smithe, East 5th near Ontario Street, and Victoria Drive near East 10th.
City Councillor George Affleck doesn’t like the lack of consultations. “We need to be able to provide citizens in the city with proper process.”
Raincity Housing will run the shelters, and Sean Spear is promising to respond quickly to any neighbourhood concerns. “We are more than happy and always do respond to the specific complaints that come out, and they do at times from the shelters.”
The shelters will open at some point in December.
