VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Park Board wants to make sure it gets in on the bike share action.
The park board’s Niki Sharma says about 10 per cent of the program’s 125 stations should be located on park property.
“They can be located at either community centres or a destination park so that people can use the bikes as a transportation option to get to those locations. As of yet, there are no locations picked out right now. But an example would be like the Vancouver Aquarium or Second Beach. But if it’s in parkland, we would have to make sure there is minimal impact on the environment,” she points out.
Bike shares allow people to rent bikes in several locations across the city for one way, short-distance rides.
It’s expected the program will be up and running by next summer.
