DELTA (NEWS1130) – A man was shot and another was beaten after an attempted robbery at a Delta strip mall. Scott Village on Scott Road at 93A Avenue is behind yellow police tape as officers investigate what started as a robbery that ended with shots fired.
Police say two men walked out of one of the shops just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and were attacked by three strangers.
“The two victims came out of a local store and again were approached by these two, possibly three individuals. One of the individuals did sustain a non-life-threatening gun shot wound and the other individual did sustain injuries which appeared to be as a result of a physical assault,” explains Delta Police Cst. Ciaran Feenan.
He says it’s not gang related but is worrisome because it was in a busy area and involved gun violence.
“It has insurance businesses, restaurants in the area, and so there could’ve been innocent bystanders that were possibly hit by stray bullets, so it’s concerning to us…It’s something we don’t see on a regular basis. It was a robbery that was taking place and unfortunately someone was shot,” adds Feenan.
Police are looking for the three suspects that took off in a vehicle right after the fight. Investigators don’t know why the men were attacked or what the suspects were looking for. The victims are expected to make full recoveries. This is the second shooting in Metro Vancouver in as many days.
