SURREY (NEWS1130) – You may have seen petitions against the controversial South Surrey Entertainment Complex proposal. But the next time you go to gamble, you might see a petition in support of the plan.

Tanya Gabara with Gateway Casinos says you’ll see the petition as soon as you enter any Gateway property.

She says the pro-petition isn’t necessary for the project to get the go-ahead from the city, but it helps to hear what people like about it.

“[They like] the jobs that’s its going to bring to into the local community, they’re pleased that a city of the size of Surrey will have the convention and meeting facilities to meet those needs and to meet the growing economy of the area,” she tells us.

“This proposal brings amenities that just aren’t available right now; they love the idea that there’s going to be a large [local] theatre, that they can make a night of it without heading too far out of the area,” adds Gabara.

She notes the consultation will continue until the public hearing, which happens in mid-January. “All of this info will be collated and tallied up and submitted to the City of Surrey as part of our public process.”
