Province, planners put positive spin on Port Mann concerns

By

SURREY (NEWS1130) – With eight lanes on the new Port Mann Bridge opening this weekend, the folks behind the project took to Twitter today for a Q & A. But some drivers didn’t really get answers to their questions.

When James asked why the free tolls you get for signing up by the end of November run out in May, neither the transportation minister nor TI Corp/TReO gave him a reason why; they simply told him the promotion is meant to encourage people to register and to keep costs low.

One person asked why there is no direct HOV connection at the 152nd on-ramp; again they didn’t get a reason — just a tweet saying there’s one at 156th instead.

Another user pointed out that 152nd goes down to four lanes at the on-ramp, causing big backups. TI Corp promised the interchanges, plus a wider Port Mann Bridge will get rid of the bottlenecks.

Transportation Minister Mary Polak and TI Corp did however, address other questions, such as those that asked how much tolls cost, how people can get decals, and what the speed limits will be around the Port Mann.

The Twitter Q & A can be viewed through the hashtag: #talktotreo
