VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Transportation Safety Board has released its report on a crash involving a BC Ferry last November in Nanaimo.
It states there was a breakdown in communications between the engine room and the bridge.
The bow propeller had been locked out because of routine maintenance on an engine and it wasn’t available during docking, thereby reducing the ability to slow and control the vessel.
Deb Marshall with the corporation says changes have been made to the procedures that happen before docking.
“We have backed up the time for pre-arrival checks, so they would be doing that at an earlier point in the voyage.”
The crash caused minor damage to the ferry and the dock.
A report on a more significant crash at Duke Point in December of last year, that closed the terminal for months, is expected in the New Year.
