Vancouver and UBC not finished discussing Broadway SkyTrain

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Despite a split in opinion over the proposed Broadway corridor rapid transit plan, Vancouver and UBC are not done talking.

The city hasn’t ruled out pushing for SkyTrain service all the way to the university.

If the Broadway corridor line gets the go ahead, UBC prefers to see it open right to the university.

But as a way to make it easier to afford, Vancouver staff have proposed a phased opening that could delay UBC’s portion.

However, City Councillor Geoff Meggs says that’s not the final word.

“Our city staff are talking to UBC weekly about different scenarios that would try to meet everybody’s needs, but no conclusions have been settled yet.”

Meggs says much of it will come down to money.

“Senior levels of government are the big issue. We’re, I think, much more aligned with UBC on this than some people have said.”

Vancouver is trying to gain regional support for the Broadway corridor plan.
