WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – An horrific crash between a car and a bus on the Lions Gate Bridge last night has killed two young men.
West Vancouver Police Sergeant Ed Pearce says witnesses have told them a car was speeding northbound on the bridge at about 11:45 p.m.
“We have reports of the vehicle spinning, for some unknown reason, out of control; [then it] crossed into the southbound lane and struck a westbound transit bus head-on,” he explains.
Both men inside the car died in hospital.
“At this time, we’re not releasing very much information on the two deceased, other than to say they are two young males in their early twenties in the Lower Mainland. We’re presently working on next of kin notifications,” says Pearce.
There were 15 people on-board the bus; four were hurt, including the driver. They are expected to be okay.
The Lions Gate Bridge was closed for hours; it was re-opened in both directions at about 6:45 a.m.
