SURREY (NEWS1130) – You will soon feel that “freeway jam” ease up just a little bit. As of tomorrow, eight lanes on the new 10-lane Port Mann Bridge will open up, as will parts of the South Fraser Perimeter Road.
Kim Seale with the News1130 Air Patrol doesn’t expect the span to exactly put her out of a job, though she does feel it will go a long way toward moving things along. But she adds that will probably only happen when all the surrounding work is done, too.
“There’s still a lot of work that has to be done — mostly on the Coquitlam side, through the Cape Horn. [There's a lot] of on and off-ramp stuff that’s still not even finished yet,” she explains.
“I’m not sure exactly how… opening the new bridge and having the three lanes in either direction, if that’s going to make all that much difference, not until they get everything completed.”
Kim sympathizes with drivers who have been delayed, and will continue to be delayed, until all the work is finished. “This has been a huge, massive construction build that’s been going on for years now and I feel for every single one of you guys that have been down there in this on a daily basis.”
Tomorrow also sees the partial opening of the new South Fraser Perimeter Road.
Today also is the last day for early-bird sign-ups for those TReO accounts. If you get your application in by today, you get a $30 credit, which amounts to 20 free car trips across the span, on top of the introductory $1.50 toll rate for one year.
The tolls themselves kick in December 8th.
