SURREY (NEWS1130) – Talks are underway to try to get a Surrey stop for that new express bus service between Langley and New Westminster’s Braid SkyTrain Station.
The fact the new No. 555 bus is bypassing Surrey got the city’s mayor pretty upset last week.
Dianne Watts points out city transportation engineers and TransLink have met a few times this week.
She says logistics and cost need to be ironed out, if a stop is going to be added off of Highway One in Surrey.
“We have to make sure that there’s room for the bus to pull in safely to pick up passengers and turn around to get back onto the freeway. So there are engineering pieces to undertake,” she explains.
Earlier she had suggested taking the money earmarked for upgrades to the Newtown bus loop and using it to pay for the new stop.
“That was a piece of brainstorming. The overall plan for Newton is actually to move that entire stop. We are looking at it critically and asking what needs to be spent.”
She says talks will continue and all sorts of options will be looked at.
