Beau McCue’s short-handed breakaway goal with six seconds left in the game lifted Tri-City to a 4-3 win over the Giants. It was Vancouver’s seventh straight loss in the WHL.
McCue also assisted on the tying goal by Justin Hamonic which came with 2:11 remaining in the final period. McCue finished with two goals and an assist.
Tristan Sieben had given Vancouver a 3-2 lead with just over seven minutes to go in the contest.
Vancouver’s Cain Franson potted his seventh goal of the season in the second period. Giants captain Wes Vannieuwenhuizen drained his first of the campaign on the power play, midway through the first period.
Defenceman Mason Geertsen finished with two assists for Vancouver.
Coming into the game, the G-Men had only two goals in their last four contests. Vancouver outshot the Amerks 41-36.
Vancouver’s next chance to dump the slump will be in Victoria on Wednesday night.
