VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The owner of a German Shepherd found beaten in a Kitsilano dumpster has been charged with animal cruelty.
If convicted, Brian Whitlock, 26, could spend up to five years in jail. He will appear in court later this week.
Two-year-old ‘Captain’ had critical injuries when he was found in July of this year. He had lacerations and massive bruising to his head and body. The BC SPCA says the dog had extreme neurological and spinal damage. He died the next day.
“It is absolutely heartbreaking to think of the suffering that this dog experienced — it’s beyond comprehension,” says Lorie Chortyk with the BC SPCA.
“Seeing the image of that poor dog really cuts through the hearts of a lot of people,” adds Chortyk. “We do 7,000 cases of animal cruelty a year and each case is heartbreaking to us… but this particular case really seemed to draw a lot of public concern and outrage.”

Oh yeah, I guess this is another one that will probably get away with another slap on the wrist. And oh yeah, not to own animals for 5 years or something like that. Why arent these laws tougher! and it takes so long to charge them with anything and convict them. Especially the obvious ones like this. It just makes me sick. Let the punishment fit the crime.
