VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – He really lit things up! Paul McCartney’s show last week left some lasting marks on BC Place.

A pyrotechnics mishap during the “Live and Let Die” performance damaged panels just beneath the roof of the stadium.
    
The fireworks used during the show went off, leaving scorch marks on the fibreglass acoustical panels.

Kathy Delisser with BC Place says they are trying to determine the extent of the damage. “We’re not sure whether or not those panels are actually damaged at this point, or if they’re just surface marks that can be washed off. We’re just dealing with the manufacturer on that. So, we’re yet to make a determination on whether or not they’re damaged, or if it’s just surface marks.”

Delisser says they don’t know how much it would cost to repair or replace the panels, but the costs would be covered by the show’s insurance.

Vancouver Fire Chief Les Sziklai says he’s never heard or seen anything like it. “We haven’t, at this time, determined whether there was a mismeasurement or the pyro effects themselves shot higher than they were prescribed.”

Because of what happened, the fire department will add more investigators on site at concerts, spend more time with the pyrotechnic shooters, and get BC Place to come up with building measurements.
