NORTH VANCOUVER(NEWS1130) – It can be the tedious side of skiing or boarding: long lift lines – especially on weekends.
But the folks at Mount Seymour are hoping their new $5 million dollar, Doppelmayr high-speed, quad chair will give you more time on the slopes.
GM Eddie Wood says it will now take you about four minutes to get to the top on the Mystery Peak Express, which officially opened Friday along with the 2012/2013 season.
The lift runs at about 4.1 metres a second and can move 1,700 people an hour.
Wood says it took six months to install and replaces a double chairlift built in 1962.
“Good infrastructure is key. It provides the dependability our customers are looking for. They have a very limited amount of time to be with us to ski and snowboard so we want to make sure we do our best for that,” he says.
Wood says families keep coming back to Seymour because it’s smaller, there’s a sense of familiarity and people know people there.
“It’s been delightful to see the many generations that have come through. So at any time, I can go to a lift line and see a family that have been here for years,” he says.
Along with the new chairlift, Mount Seymour has also extensively contoured the loading and unloading areas of the chair to allow ease of use for beginners.
