VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There’s plenty of action for the local sports fan this weekend.
WHL
The Vancouver Giants (8-20-0-0) will try to build off of a 7-2 thumping of the Victoria Royals on Wednesday night when they host the Swift Current Broncos (12-15-3-2) tonight at the Coliseum.
Wednesday’s victory snapped a seven-game losing streak. The Giants sit fifth in the BC Division while the visiting Broncos sit tied for second place in the WHL’s East Division. The Broncos’ last game was a 6-5 loss in Kelowna on Wednesday, their second loss in a row.
After tonight’s game, the Giants travel to Everett for a game tomorrow night against the Silvertips, then return home for a Sunday afternoon home game (4 p.m.) against Kamloops.
Tonight’s faceoff with Swift Current is at 7:30 p.m.
AHL
The Abbotsford Heat are off until a Sunday afternoon road game against the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Marlies farm team. The game begins a American Hockey League road trip that finishes Tuesday night when the Heat visit the Rochester Americans.
The Heat still lead the AHL’s North Division by five points over second-place Lake Erie but are coming off a pair of home ice losses to San Antonio this week.
Game time Sunday in Toronto is noon.
NLL
The National Lacrosse League in back in the area for one night.
The Calgary Roughnecks and Colorado Mammoth meet tonight in NLL preseason action tomorrow at the Langley Events Centre. Last year’s game in Langley between the two teams was a complete sellout.
Game time is 7 p.m.
