VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A man convicted of beating a woman to death five years ago will still have to wait until 2028 before he can apply for parole.
The BC Court of Appeal is upholding Robert Bennight’s sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole for 18 years.
A vicious beating of astonishing brutality is how the sentencing judge described Dennise Fabbro’s death.
Fabbro was hit with some kind of blunt object in Bennight’s apartment on the Downtown Eastside 5 years ago.
She was hit so hard her face dislocated from her skull.
Fabbro died in the hospital two months later and in September, 2010, Bennight was sentenced for second-degree murder.
Bennight’s lawyer argued he should be able to apply for parole after 13 years, partly because he has a mental condition.
