VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s a big task for the region’s mayors: get political consensus and public support for transit expansion.

But the province’s transportation minister and Vancouver’s mayor are both confident it’s possible.

It’s a task assigned by Transportation Minister Mary Polak, who wants consensus and support before looking at new ways to fund transit.

“They need to be able to show me that they have the public support for that, and I believe they can do that.”

Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson believes the support is already there.

“I think we have a strong consensus around the region that we need to invest more. It’s about having the tools at our disposal to do that.”

The mayors want funding solutions by the end of February.
