Christine Sinclair wins 2012 Lou Marsh Award

BURNABY (NEWS1130) – Burnaby’s Christine Sinclair is the winner of the 2012 Lou Marsh Award, given annually to Canada’s outstanding athlete.
Sinclair, 29, was the London Olympics’ top scorer in the womens soccer with six goals, leading Canada to bronze at the games. Sinclair’s performance included a hat-trick in Canada’s semi-final loss to the United States.
The Canadian captain had 23 goals and six assists on the year for Canada. Sinclair was first selected to British Columbia’s under-14 girls’ all-star team at age 11, and led her school to three league championships while attending Burnaby South Secondary. She also starred for the Vancouver Whitecaps womens team from 2006 to 2008 and won a national title while playing at Portland University.
Other finalists for the Marsh award were speedskater Christine Nesbitt, figure skater Patrick Chan, the 2011 winner, Olympic gold trampolinist Rosie MacLennan, Victoria cyclist Ryder Hesjedal and Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish of New Westminster.
