VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – CJ Morningstar Fowler’s murder has re-ignited anger among first nations, the 16-year-old’s mother Matilda Fowler had trouble keeping it together while talking about her daughter and the need to end violence against women.
“I don’t want any more young girls going missing or murdered. Nobody deserves to lose a child… I just want to take her home.”
The report into the missing women inquiry comes out Monday, and already the sentiment from the Assembly of First Nations National Chief, Shawn Atleo, is that it will be meaningless, and instead calls for a Canada-wide investigation.
Fowler’s father, Glen Wilson, says they don’t want any other family to have to go through this. “We don’t want this case to be another case they just stick under the rug because they can’t find any witnesses… please if you have any information…”
It is an emotional time for the family worried their daughter will become another name on a growing list.
The Assembly of First Nations says there are almost 600 unsolved cases involving missing or Aboriginal women in Canada.
