NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A 41-year-old man is in serious condition in hospital after he was bitten by a police dog in North Vancouver. Mounties say the man was tracked after there was a fraud reported at a financial institution.
It happened around 2 p.m. Thursday when officers were called to Lonsdale Avenue. The RCMP says as soon as officers arrived, a man took off, but police lost the suspect.
The RCMP Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service was called and found a man not far from the financial institution. During the arrest, the man was bit by the dog.
The Independent Investigations Office is now working on the case. The IIO was set up to look into police incidents involving death or serious injuries.
