TORONTO (NEWS1130) - The next stage of the NHL lockout appears as though it will play out in court.
The league has filed a class action complaint seeking a declaration confirming the legality of the lockout along with an unfair labour practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board.
Those moves came after news surfaced about the executive board of the NHL Players’ Association seeking a vote from membership that would allow it to file a “disclaimer of interest.”
Should the 30-member board be granted the right, a “disclaimer of interest” would see the NHLPA dissolved and provide players the right to file class-action anti-trust lawsuits against the league.
The NHL’s collective bargaining talks have failed to produce much progress.
The sides spent two days with a US federal mediator in New Jersey this week and don’t currently have any further talks scheduled.
